The relentless push for real-time data processing and artificial intelligence at the network’s edge is creating an insatiable demand for more powerful, compact, and efficient computing solutions. ADLINK Technology is addressing this challenge head-on with the introduction of its Express-PTL COM Express module, the first of its kind to harness the capabilities of the new Intel Core Ultra Series 3 processors. This launch marks a significant milestone for developers of edge AI, graphics-intensive systems, and next-generation embedded applications. The new module is engineered to bring unprecedented computational power directly to the source of data generation, enabling complex AI workloads to be executed locally without reliance on the cloud. By integrating a sophisticated trio of processing units, this solution promises to unlock new possibilities in fields ranging from industrial automation and robotics to advanced medical imaging and smart city infrastructure, where latency and reliability are non-negotiable.
A New Era of Integrated AI Acceleration
At the heart of the Express-PTL module’s impressive capabilities is a revolutionary architecture designed to deliver a total platform performance of up to 180 trillion operations per second (TOPS). This power is not derived from a single source but is intelligently distributed across three specialized processing components. The new Intel Arc GPU, featuring up to 12 Xe cores, contributes a massive 120 TOPS, providing the raw horsepower needed for both demanding AI inference and high-fidelity graphics rendering. Complementing the GPU is an integrated NPU 5.0, a dedicated Neural Processing Unit that supplies up to 50 TOPS for sustained, power-efficient AI acceleration. This allows the system to offload specific machine learning tasks, freeing up other resources. Orchestrating these elements is an advanced 16-core hybrid CPU that masterfully combines performance cores for intensive tasks, efficiency cores for background processes, and low-power cores for idle states, ensuring an optimal balance between performance and energy consumption for any given workload.
Engineered for Mission-Critical Environments
Beyond its sheer processing power, the Express-PTL module is built to withstand the rigors of real-world deployment in the most challenging settings. Recognizing the needs of mission-critical applications, ADLINK is offering industrial-temperature SKUs specifically designed to operate flawlessly in extreme environments with temperatures ranging from –40°C to 85°C. Reliability is further enhanced by robust features such as In-Band Error-Correcting Code (IBECC) memory support for up to 128 GB of high-speed DDR5, which ensures data integrity in applications where even minor errors can have significant consequences. The inclusion of Time-Sensitive Networking (TSN) on its Ethernet ports guarantees deterministic communication, a critical requirement for synchronized operations in factory automation and robotics. Furthermore, with compliance with functional safety standards, the module provides the assurances necessary for deployment in systems where human safety is paramount. Looking ahead, the company also announced plans to bring this powerful technology to a space-constrained COM-HPC Mini form factor later this quarter, signaling a commitment to expanding its reach into an even wider array of compact and rugged edge devices.
